Heads up

4 of the 5 "plug-in" saunas we checked won't fit a regular outlet. They need a 20-amp outlet.

Checked on each company's website, November 1, 2026. "Not listed" means the company doesn't say, so we don't guess. Plunge All-In sits with 20-amp outlets because Plunge's own pages say both 15 and 20 amps. A licensed electrician must confirm what your home needs.

Where our information comes from

We don't test saunas, and we won't pretend we do. We read each company's product page, spec sheet and owner's manual. We write down every number with a link to where we found it. If a company's own pages don't match, we tell you.

Sauna and Cold Plunge Electrical Questions

Do I need a 20-amp outlet for a home sauna?

For most plug-in infrared saunas, yes. Of the 5 we checked, 4 need a 20-amp outlet (Sun Home Equinox 2, Clearlight Sanctuary 2, Sunlighten mPulse Believe, Sunlighten mPulse Aspire). Only the Peak Shasta uses a regular 15-amp outlet, and it fits 1 person. Traditional, barrel and outdoor saunas we checked need 240 volts instead. A licensed electrician must confirm what your home needs.

Can I plug a cold plunge into a regular outlet?

Some, but check the model. Of the 7 cold plunges we checked, the Plunge Air and the Ice Barrel Chiller list a regular 15-amp circuit. The BlueCube Drop needs a 20-amp outlet on a dedicated breaker. Plunge's own pages give both 15 and 20 amps for the Plunge All-In. Plunge Chill and Nordik don't list the amps at all. Only 1 of the 7 says what plug it has. A licensed electrician must confirm what your home needs.

Do outdoor barrel saunas require an electrician?

Plan on it. All 4 outdoor and barrel saunas we checked need 240 volts. Almost Heaven's Salem and Watoga heaters are wired in on a 30-amp circuit, with a separate 15-amp supply for the lights. Peak says the Patagonia needs its own outdoor 240-volt circuit put in by an electrician. The Clearlight Sanctuary Outdoor 2 has a 240-volt plug on a 15-amp circuit, so it needs a 240-volt outlet where it sits. A licensed electrician must confirm what your home needs.
